Procedures: County Court
Fast track claims
Tried in 1 day, heard in 30 weeks. Formal. Legal representation is required. £25,000 in value.
Multi-track claims
Higher value, over £25,000. Circuit Judge. Formal with evidence + witnesses. Legal representation is a yes. Personal injury claims over £50,000.
Small track claims
District judges. Usually informal. Litigators come by themselves. No lawyers. Consumer claims, minor personal claims usually.
General Information: In the County Court, cases are usually heard by a circuit judge or a district judge and rarely, in defamation cases, there will be a jury of 8.
Procedures: High Court
General information: The High court can hear any cases, but three divisions which specialise in certain cases each.

Chancery Division
Cases to do with wills, trusts, copyright etc. Single High court judge.
Family Division
Matrimonial disputes, declarations, all cases relating to the Children's act 1989.
Appeals in Civil Cases
General rule: County court cases are appealed to a more senior judge and then to the Court of Appeal.
