Continuous effort between managers and employees to ensure that employees' activities and outputs is in line with organisation's goals

Evaluating employee's current or past
performance relative to his or her job standard
Purpose/objectives of Performance Appraisal
Helps Human Resource Managers to make decisions on employee rewarding, promotion, demotions, transfers, suspension and dismissal of employees
To evaluate how effectively employees have carried out their tasks, it helps keep record of each employee's job performance including efforts made and their achievements
HR managers are also able to identify skills gap via the Performance Appraisal and hence are able to motivate and give feedback to their employees

A face to face meeting between the appraiser and employee to discuss matters relating to the appraisal.
It includes reviewing performance standards of the employee and discussing on how to improve key areas that need to be addressed
