NEPHRONS

Filtration, reabsorption, secretion
-
Filtration = Pressure forced, filtration of waste -laden blood INTO glomerulus
Reabsorption = Returning important substances from filtrate back into body (EVERYTHING GETS FILTERED, ANYTHING IN GLOMERULUS IS DESTINED FOR EXCRETION)

URINATION
-
Internal and exernal sphincter - Invol & Vol, SM and skeletal
Bladder filling
Sympathetic - Internal contracted, detrusor muscle relaxed
-
Once bladder full
-
-
Detrusor contracts, Parasympathetic & Somatic to ext. sphinct
Bladder emptying
Parasympathetic Detrusor muscle contracts, internal sphincter relaxes.
Somatic - Relaxation of external sphincter, NO MORE CONT EXCITATION

Bicarbonate
-
On APICAL membrane, uses Na/H+ co-tans. to obtain H+. Here, it forms carbonic acid as the membrane of cells are impermeable to bicarb. In cells, broken down :rain_cloud: and CO2. Uses CARBONIC ANHYDRASE to enter cell, re forming carbonic acid, and then being broken down to H+ and HCO3-. The Na+ used to pump H+ are then taken back up.
Fluid pH in the body
-
CO2 - Can alter the rate and depth of breathing in order to change the [ ] CO2 in the blood plasma. More, = More acidic as more Carbonic acid and more H+

GFR = The amount of filtrate formed in all renal corpuscles (Bowmans Capsule and glomerulus) in both kidneys in one minute
