An external hard drive is a portable storage device that can be attached to a computer through a USB or FireWire connection, or wirelessly. External hard drives typically have high storage capacities and are often used to back up computers or serve as a network drive.

Advantages: It can hold much more information than other storage devices. Furthermore it stores data much more faster and the data is not deleted when you turn off the computer

Disadvantages: It is way more expensive than a optical disk and it is slightly slower than a hard disk

a rigid non-removable magnetic disk with a large data storage capacity. Hard disks spin at very high speeds (around 7,200 RPM - revolutions per minute) within a sealed unit inside the computer. Hard disks store large amounts of data - 200GB to 1TB is common in desktop computers.

Disadvantages: It consumes a lot of power and the data error is frequent and it is large and it can be broken if dropped

Advantages: they have read/write speed and Hard disks stores data without the need of a constant electricity supply. Furthermore Hard disks allow data to be stored in one place

Memory Stick is a removable flash memory card format, launched by Sony in October 1998 A memory stick is 'pen top' sized USB device and can be used in a similar way to a floppy disk but it is inserted into the USB port - it is then seen by the computer as a removable drive. They typically come in sizes from 512MB to 32GB upwards depending on the price paid.

Advantages: Is that it's easy to transport and it can resist scratches and pen drives are universal (can fit in any computer)

Disadvantage: Portable storage devices in general are more likely to be lost, stolen or damaged. Furthermore Can get infected by a virus and Anyone can access your files if the memory stick is lost

The third generation optical disc was developed in 2000–2006, and was introduced as Blu-ray Disc. ... Blu-ray eventually prevailed in a high definition optical disc format war over a competing format, the HD DVD. A standard Blu-ray disc can hold about 25 GB of data, a DVD about 4.7 GB, and a CD about 700 MB.

Advantages: Mass storage capacity, Countable/uncountable storage units and High data stability

Disadvantages: It is Easily broken, They require special drive to read and
write and It is epensive

A flash memory card (sometimes called a storage card) is a small storage device that uses nonvolatile semiconductor memory to store data on portable or remote computing devices. Such data includes text, pictures, audio and video

Advantages: small portable devices, very durable and needs very little power to work

Disadvantage: Since it is a fairly new technology, they are r expensive and Cannot be edited more then 100,000 times, which might not be a problem for a regular user, but it will be for a supercomputer or any other powerful computer.

This is tape used in recording sound, pictures, or computer data.

Advantages: Various backup capacities available. and it's Easy to store and transport media.
Furthermore Typically a fully automatic operation, requires no user intervention aside from changing tape cartridges.

Disadvantages:Data is not encrypted,High Failure rate and very fragile and must be replaced frequently
