Which nutrients do adolescents need?
Protein- to help with rapid growth
Carbohydrates- for energy to grow and carry out activities. There are two types of carbohydrates- starch and sugar
Fat- to provide energy
Calcium- for growth and strengthening for bones and teeth
Iron- to produce enough red blood cells ( especially when growth is rapid) and to boost your brain power
Vitamin C- to build a strong immune system ( this protects you from infections)
Dietary fiber- to prevent constipation
Types of accidents in the kitchen
Suffocation- caused by no oxygen
Poisoning- caused by bacteria
Cuts- caused by sharp objects
Falls- caused by tripping oven
Burns- caused by dry heat
Scalds- caused by moist heat

Minor burn- place under cold water for at least ten seconds or until the pain subsides. Do not burn blisters. Only cover if the blister bursts
Small cut- clean out cut with water and cover with a clean dressing. Apply pressure to stop the bleeding. If serious, seek medical attention

-use the grill pan handles when putting the grill pan under or taking it out of the grill
-remove the grill pan handles before closing the grill door
-keep the door closed when cooking food under grill
