Organisms and their survival
Photosynthesis
A producer : is an organism that makes its own food using photosynthesis; all plants are producers
Plants photosynthesise to create food
This is the equation; Carbon Dioxide + Water -> Oxygen +Glucose
Leaf adaptation
Veins; help water travel around the leaf
Thin; light can reach all cells in the leaf
Broadness; helps the leaf catch a lot of light
Xylem tubes/cells; veins
Stomata cells surrounded by guard cells; stomata cells open and close depending on how much gas needs to be let in whilst guard cells stop things others than carbon dioxide getting in
Chemosynthesis
Chemosynthesis is when organisms create glucose through different reactions
Usually uses carbon dioxide as a reactant and is done undersea by iron bacteria and nitrogen bacteria
Respiration
Equation for aerobic respiration ; Oxygen + glucose -> carbon dioxide + water
equation for anaerobic respiration (without oxygen); glucose-> lactic acid
When you respire aerobically more energy is transferred per glucose molecule whereas when you respire anaerobically it gives you short burts of energy and may give cramps due to the lactic acid
Food web and chains
the diagram that shows interpendence
Ecosystem
habitat; place where organisms live. Niche; role that an organism has in an ecosystem. Ecosystem; organisms living in a specific area and the habitat they live in. Community; plants and animal found in a particular habitat
Plant mineral
Nitrate; builds proteins and growth- lack can result in poor growth and yellow leaves
Phosphate; for respiration and growth- lack can result in discoloured leaves and poor root growth
potassium; for photosynthesis and repiration- lack can result in discoloured leaves and poor flower/fruit growth
magnesium for photosynthesis- lack can create yellow leaves
