  • Relatively Cheap and holds about 800Mb

Floppy Disk

  • too small and expensive for modern computing
  • holds 1.44Mb

Hard Disk

  • Main Storage for all computers. Disk can write and read.
  • Mass storage, goes up to several Tb

Magnetic Tape

  • Used for storing back ups because of the cheapness
  • Two types DAT (Digital Audio Tape) and AIT (Artificial Intelligent Tape); these contain a chip that stores a catalogue of the data

CD-ROM

  • 800Mb bought with content already on it
  • Pre-written material

DVD-ROM

  • As above, but with more storage, 4.7Gb

CD-R/DVD-R

  • Write once read by many storage device (WORM). Very cheap and efficient for backing up

Memory Stick

  • Uses modern USB ports to transfer data; mass storage device, capacity always increasing

SSD

  • Alternative to HDD, it is a much faster drive that has large storage capacity.
  • emerging tech still quite expensive
