The Human Body
Cell
Stem cells are cells that can become any other type of cell. They are useful because systems like the nervous cannot reproduce and therefore, when you have spinal injury it doesn't heal. The stem cells can replace the cells that died.
Cell specialization is when cells have a certain function. Cell differentiation is when a cell is learning to become a specialized cell.
Definition: the smallest structural and functional unit of an organism, typically microscopic and consisting of cytoplasm and a nucleus enclosed in a membrane. Microscopic organisms typically consist of a single cell, which is either eukaryotic or prokaryotic.
Organ System
Definition: a group of organs that work together to carry out a complex overall function. Each organ of the system does part of the larger job.

Keeping a stable internal environment requires constant adjustments. Organ systems work together to maintain homeostasis by doing their own functions, but also help other organs with their functions.
Tissue
Definition: any of the distinct types of material of which animals or plants are made, consisting of specialized cells and their products.
Types of tissues
Connective tissue: made up of cells that form the body’s structure. Examples include bone and cartilage.
Epithelial tissue: made up of cells that line inner and outer body surfaces, such as the skin and the lining of the digestive tract. Epithelial tissue protects the body and its internal organs, secretes substances such as hormones, and absorbs substances such as nutrients.
Muscle tissue: made up of cells that have the unique ability to contract, or become shorter. Muscles attached to bones enable the body to move.
Nervous tissue: made up of neurons, or nerve cells, that carry electrical messages. Nervous tissue makes up the brain and the nerves that connect the brain to all parts of the body.
Organ
Definition: a part of an organism that is typically self-contained and has a specific vital function
