Skeletal And Muscular Systems
Human skeleton has many functions
Calcium and other minerals makes the bone strong
Making of blood cells
Movement
Protects vital organs
Helps the body move
Supports the body
e.g: skull protects the brain
Makes blood cells
Bones can repair themselves
cells such as red or white blood cells are made in the bone marrow
Bone marrow is a soft tissue found inside our larger bones
Bones are linked together by joints
Arthritis is a condition in which bones wear away by moving against each other
e.g of joints: Hinge joint or ball and socket joint
To avoid this a synovial joint is formed
End of bones are covered by cartilage(strong substance)
Cartilage is kept slippery by a liquid called synovial fluid
Tough ligaments join the bones
Muscles
Bones cannot work on there own
Muscles are attached to bones to help them move(contraction)
However a muscle can only pull but not push so two muscles are attached
These muscles are called antagonistic muscles
E.g of antagonistic muscles: Biceps
