The Congress Party :tada:
The Indian people should work out their government themselves
India needs one strong central government
Instead of becoming independent, one strong central government would take control and organize all of the Indian states
The main problems of India are economic and linked to poverty. Therefore, this government would need some financial control in case of emergencies.
"...for there can be no independence so long as there is a foreign army on Indian soil..."-
Letter from Mohandas Gandhi to Sir Stafford Cripps, 8 May 1946
The notion of independence implies that India stands alone and is able to rule itself. If foreign powers/armies (aka the British) are involved, that itself basically strips India of the ability to call itself independent.
Pakistan should not be created
"It is a two-nation theory that has no basis in history. It would be a terrible tragedy for the Indians."
The notion that Muslims need their own country is ridiculous: almost all Muslims in India are Hindu converts
There are too many factors that would need to be considered and handled for two countries. Staying as one country would be less complicated and better overall.
Would Muslim's living in India or Hindus living in Pakistan be non-citizens? There would be too much of a divide between the people
These factors include external forces attempting to manipulate and take over the areas once the British are not present, the struggle for peace between the new nations, and the formations of each country's military could take a while, which other superpowers could prey on (Mentioned before.)
The communal problems between the Hindus and Muslims are the British's fault. Creating another country just because of conflict caused by a European power is crazy and should not be considered a viable option.
The Unionist agree with us and believe that the creation of Pakistan will lead to violence and and upset all religious groups.
We have struggled for the freedom of India for twenty-five years
Mohandas Gandhi, the leader of the Congress Party, helped the beliefs of the group with Satyagraha and other forms of protesting and getting the word out.
We are willing to negotiate in good faith with the Muslim League. This will lead to not only independence, but to a strong national government
The Cabinet Mission knew that if Pakistan were to be created, millions of Muslims could be left behind in India. The Congress Party does not like the idea of Muslims being a separate nation, so these two have an idea in common.
The Unionist Party believes the British shall remain in India until we reach a final agreement with the British. The Unionists are loyal to the British and we would like to reach an agreement with them sooner rather than later.
How it benefits everyone!!!
The Muslim League
The growing communal problems between Hindus and Muslims are the fault of the British. With one strong central government uniting the people, there would be no need to create Pakistan. Your plan of Pakistan includes some undeniable flaws, so ultimately staying as one would benefit both Muslims and Hindus
The Cabinet Mission
We agree with the Cabinet Mission that the creation of Pakistan would be unwise. Additionally, since a central government would be taking over control, there would be no need for the British to stay in India.
Sikhs
The Sikhs and the Congress party have all the same interests. As a collective group, we believe in equal rights of government voice and Pakistan should NOT be created. As the Sikhs part of the job, we will allow them to govern their Province, homeland, equal amount of representation, and control of our defenses and emergencies
Unionists
The Unionist Party is a political party loyal to the British and their rule in India. The Unionists represented the interests of the Muslims, Hindus, and Sikhs. Violence among the people will be avoided if Pakistan is never created. They feel as most of us and want their independence from the British rule .
