Occupational Health and Safety(OHS)
History of OHS
Occupational Health and Safety(OHS) only began in the 19th century. During the industrial revolution, there was an introduction of heavy machinery in factories. Workers were not given any training on how these were to be operated let alone safely. OHS inspected factories in relation to injury prevention.
The major incident that impacted OHS laws in Australia was when a bucket filled with hot bitumen spilled from a five-story building onto a worker. In this case, the worker successfully sued the company.

Preventing injuries and exposure to diseases
Safety
(Working at heights, Confined spaces, forklift)
For certain organisation it is required for workers to carry permits to use equipment. Permits are acquaired when a people has completed training on a piece of machinery. It is necessary for a worker to understand how to properly use the equipment, what safety measures that protect themselves and other workers, and what to do in case of a malfunction. Overall, this will minimise workers being injured and ensures the organisations that the worker is qualified and knowledgeable using that machinery.
Humans
Human error is the most common reason for accidents. Humans are all different with different abilities which determines how they can learn and their perception of things. Misjudgement of a task or fatigue can be dangerous in any workplace.
OHS purpose is to guide the human workers and the public to prevent injury in that workplace
Human’s aren't always bad, they can predict and manage a systems variations and mistakes and adapt
Near-misses are generally early warning signs of serious problems that need to be addressed.
Organisations
As the technological era progresses, it has caused the increase of education and internet and media influences.
Organisations need to change their attitudes towards WHS in the workplace. WHS is an important thing to protect both the organisation and its employees of injury and death. WHS gives organisations guidelines to follow to maintain a safe working environment, by making sure the floors are free from clutter and the hygiene is up to a decent standard.
Maintaining good OHS standard can be extremely beneficial to organisations causing them to develop and grow . Can lead to more clients if people know they have the right values.
Society
OHS is an extremely important factor in society. It can help protect the livelihoods of organisations, employees, workers and their customers (public). If an incident occurs it can help differentiate between who was at fault and who wasn't. Expanding societies knowledge and understanding of what OHS is can promote safer workplaces. Human's generally learn from experiences and mistakes.
