In October, the summer heat eases off, the grape harvest is in full swing, and the cities are a lot quieter for sightseeing. In the winter (December-February), temperatures in the south remain mild, and while it is the off-season, some attractions have limited opening hours, but it is still an enjoyable time to explore many of Italy's historical sites. In the summer months of July and August, there are high visitor numbers and high temperatures.
