Treaty of Versailles (1919) officially ended the war. It was imposed on Germany by the Allies, demanding that Germany give up some land to Poland & dismantle its military.
CAUSE OF WWII: Harsh penalties placed on Germany led to Nazi's rise to power, who promised to reverse Versailles Treaty -- to restore political stability, jobs, and remilitarization. #
In 1918, German generals sought to pass the blame for defeat to a civilian government they installed in Berlin, made up of members of the Center and Socialist parties. The government was forced to sue the Entente allies for peace and consent to an armistice agreement delivered by two British admirals.
CAUSE OF WWII: Many Germans accepted the myth that socialist and Jewish politicians had betrayed Germany ("stab in the back"), which served as a rallying cry for Adolf Hitler and the Nazi rise to power in the 1920s.
