CREATIVE PERSON
Componential Model of Creativity
(Amabile, 1983)
Creative Ability = domain-relevant skills, creativity-relevant skills, task motivation
domain-relevant skills: knowledge about domain, tacit knowledge dev'd thru exp, technical skills (domain knowledge is boosted by observation e.g. Huggies Pull Ups)
creativity-relevant skills: appropriate cognitive style (break perceptual set, suspect judgment), knowledge of heuristics for generating ideas, conducive work style, diversity of knowledge
task motivation: attitudes toward task, perceptions of own motivation for undertaking the task, envt can alter intrinsic motivation
Boosting positive mood can enhance creativity and cognition:
- memory- easier to recall positive memories
- judgement- tend to give more favourable judgment, increased confidence
- decision-making- complex decision-making is faster, better integrative thinking, less confusion
- creativity- more novel associations w/ neutral stimuli, better cognitive flexibility
