Atmosphere and change
Global energy budget - energy balance between incoming energy from sun (short wave) and outgoing energy from atmosphere (long wave)
-
Balance = energy constantly coming in from sun makes up for energy lost
Natural Green House Effect: keeps atmosphere warm, and makes a steady climate
Enhanced Green House Effect: excess of GHGs in atmosphere interrupting the balance - less heat is going out, same amount is coming in
GHGs: CO2, SO2, NOx, water vapour, methane
GHG sources: transport (cars, airplanes), animals (e.g. cows and methane), burning fossil fuels (e.g. coal, oil), melting permafrost (lots of methane trapped in permafrost), etc
Factors altering balance (energy in, energy out)
