White Blood Cells = also known as leukocytes are cells of the immune system which respond to foreign substances in the body

Destroy = to terminate something, in this case a pathogen

Anti-bodies = a substance produced by a white blood cell which binds to antigens on the pathogens surface and destroys the pathogen
Vaccination = an injection which places weakened or dead or damaged/inactive pathogens in the body to make immune system recognise it in future

Antigens = a toxin or foreign substance which gives the pathogen a unique set of characteristics and induces an immune response in the body

These WBCs engulf the pathogen by changing their shape to fit around it and ingest it. Once this is done, the phagocyte uses enzymes to break down the pathogen and destroy it
