Investigation in Rheumatoid Arthritis
ESR, CRP and plasma viscosity usually raised but may be normal
Rheumatoid factor ( synovitis )
+ve in 60-70% of patients
FBC
normochromic, normocytic anaemia
reactive thrombocytosis
Raised ferritin, low serum iron, low iron binding capacity
LFTs
mildly raised alkaline phosphatase and gamma GT
ANA: +ve in differentials (SLE) . also +ve in 30% of RA. weakly +ve in 10% of population
Uric acid leels: raised in gout
urinalysis: microscopic haematuria/proteinuria may suggest connective tissue disorder
Anti-Cyclic Citrullinated peptide (Anti-CCP) ABs
If Rh Factor negative
more specific than RF
XRAY
Erosion
Soft Tissue swelling
Loss of Joint Space
Soft bones (osteopenia)
Deformity
