Biodiversity
Air Pollution
Air pollution consists of chemical substances and particles released into the atmosphere, mainly by human activities
-
Acid Rain:Air pollution causes rain to become acidic (below pH of 7)
-Damages soil
-Kills trees (destroys leaves)
-Lowers pH of lakes and oceans, killing organisms
it comes from fossil fuels and methane from livestock
Alien/ invasive species
-
Problems with Alien/ invasive species : Usually causes a disruption in the ecosystem.
Results in loss of biodiversity and damage to an ecosystem.
-
Pollution:
Addition of chemicals, noise, heat, or even light beyond the capacity of the environment
Bio magnification: Increase in concentration of a substance as it moves up the food chain (toxins) the eagles almost went extinct from the bio magnification of chemicals
-
Habitat loss
Habitat Fragmentation: the division of a large habitat area into smaller areas. Affects the amount and type of species that live in a smaller areas
Overpopulation
Problems:Human population continues to increase therefore, habitat is lost due to human expansion for housing/buildings, land converted for agricultural use, hunting, fishing, etc…..
Climate change
5 effects of climate change: 1.Decline in cold-adapted species like polar bears
2.Melting of glaciers and rising sea levels 3.Coastal flooding and shoreline erosion 4. Heat-related human health problems 5. Droughts and water shortages.
