Climate Change
How Climate Works
Effects
Addressing Curbing agriculture and forestry- Soil and forests absorb carbon dioxide.
Evidence
Shifting Habitats: As ecosystems on land become warmer, the locations in which some organisms lives are changing
Rising Temperatures
IPCC notes that the temp near Earth's surface has risen.
By 1.33 Degrees F.
2005 was warmest on record.
Changes in Precipitation
Changes in the past 100 years have been complex
Many regions have received much more precipitation than normal
Many severe storms have also caused changes
in precipitation rates as well.
Melting Ice
Glaciers are melting so large amounts of frozen water is being melted.
Warming temps are also effecting the climate around the world
This effects the amount of snow and ice meting at certain times as well.
Rising Sea Levels
Rising levels are happening all across the world.
Many island nations are nervous due to being surrounding by water
Especially true if they are close to sea level
When Sea water warms the volume also increases
Water from melting ice also contributes to this.
4 Factors that effect climate
Energy from the sun
The sun is the source of energy on the earth
Energy is transferred to the earth by radiation.
30% is reflected back to space
the remaining 70% is what causes the heating of the earth
The Greenhouse Effect
click to edit
The Natural process in which certain gases in the atmosphere keep heat near earth preventing it from radiation.
Cap and Trade- Some industries are better then others in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Term used to describe how the heat is trapped in the atmosphere almost like in a plant greenhouse.
The factory can sell the leftover 25 units to the factory that is having difficulty mission as much as is required.
Changing migration times: A change in migration causes problems. Birds leave early due to a temperature change but when they arrive at their destination, snow is still falling and food is not supplied
Problems Obtaining Food:Food supply is threatened by global warming. Ice is melting and sheets are thinning making it harder for polar bears to hunt
Gases in the greenhouse are: H2O, CO2, O3, N2O, CH4.
The Effects of Latitude
Carbon Tax- Many scientists and policymakers think that cap and trade programs are ineffective.
Latitude has a significant effect on climate
The farther you move from the equator, the cooler the climate tends to be.
Several Europeans nations have established carbon taxes, but the downside of a carbon taxis that most polluters simply pass the cost along to consumers simply pass the higher prices for the goods and services they sell
The earth also has unequal heating due to the tilt that the earth has. This is also deals with seasons.
Effects of a Changing Ocean: The ocean is becoming warmer...the chemistry is changing because it is absorbing more and more carbon dioxide
Same is said about the tropics (near the equator) as well as the poles (FAR from the equator).
Carbon Offsets- A carbon offset is a voluntary payment made when one industry or person instead of reducing its own greenhouse gas emissions
Sunspot Cycles
The Sun varies in the amount of radiation that is emitted
There is a relationship between sunspots and the radiation that is emitted.
The more sunspots that are on the surface of the sun, the more energy that is released by the sun.

Impacts:bad weather, economic changes, heath effects(diseases), water supply
