- - - - Parents see themselves as playing an active role in their students education.
        
        Parents are willing to work with their student more when they know that the teacher is also invested in their student's academic needs.
        
        When the school, teachers, parents, and students all work together everyone involved is benefiting from each other to make the classroom and school a great place for the student to learn.
- - - - Parents may not have the comprehension, reading, writing, math, etc skills that they need to work with their child on their schoolwork, or to understand letters or emails you are sending to them.
        
        Parents may work multiple jobs, nonstandard hours, and are unable to make typical meeting hours work to meet with the parent. They may also not have transportation or child care for these meetings.
        
        Parents may think that they don't have any skills that can benefit your classroom, the students, or the school.
- - - - Offer various meeting times to meet the needs of your families. Maybe they need to meet before school, after school, later at night, or on the weekend to make the meeting work for their family. They may need to meet at a different location or bring a child with to the meeting.
        
        Have an interactive voicemail system that automatically goes out to each family in the school about upcoming events, emergencies, or any information they should know.
        
        When sending home schoolwork or a family project that you would like the family and the child to work on together, be sure to highlight the key points in the instructions. Provide definitions to any curriculum terms that parents might not be familiar with.
        
        Stress that there are many different ways for parents to be involved in their child's education. They can help their child with schoolwork at home, they can volunteer in the classroom, they can volunteer in the school, they can fundraise, they can seek donations for the school, they can help plan school events, etc. All are important and very helpful and appreciated!
