Niddah
Within marriage, sex is controlled by the laws of niddah – sexual purity.
During a woman’s monthly menstrual period, she is not allowed to have sex with her husband.
After this time, the woman goes to a mikveh (ritual bath) where she dunks herself in water.
Attitudes to sex
Judaism has a very natural and realistic view of sexuality.
Sex plays a very important part in human relationships. It is meant to be enjoyable physically.
in Judaism, there is also a spiritual / emotional side to sex. It is not just the joining of two bodies, it is also the uniting of two souls.
Sex is of course a physical way in which two married people can express their love for one another.
Judaism says that this desire must be controlled and should only be expressed in a marriage.
The Torah forbids homosexual sexual practice – calling it an abomination.
A Jew is expected to show respect for individuals regardless of sexual beliefs.

Procreation is a major purpose for sex
Procreation is a major purpose for sex.
However, Judaism does not believe that procreation is the only reason for sex.

Contraception
The Torah permits contraception.
Husband and wife are unable either financially or emotionally to have another child.
Where the woman’s life is or would be in danger.
