Job analysis
Initially involves establishing whether a vacancy exists.
A job analysis identifies the jobs main features;
What are the main physical and mental elements of the job
What specific skills are required
What and who would the job holder be responsible for
Who would they be responsible to
Where will they work and what are the main health and safety considerations
Job description
Once a job analysis has been completed and a vacancy identified, a job description of the job has to be drawn up.
A job description includes;
The job title
The overall purpose of the job
The main tasks and responsibilities
Who they are responsible to and for and who they will work with
What decision making powers they have
Where the job will be based
The resources required to do the job
can also include conditions of service such as details about pay, hours of work and holiday entitlement
Person specification
The main purpose is to identify the idividual that you want to do the job
As well as the skills, qualifications and experience, this will contain the qualities which the ideal candidate should have
EXAMPLES;
good team leader
able to work on own initiative
Highly numerate
The HRM department should identify the;
Physical attributes which the suitable candidate should have
Skills, educational qualifications, training and experience required by the candidate
