The continuing use of language in the face of competition from regionally and social powerful language.
It refers to the situation that members of community attempt to keep the language they have always used
Language Shift
When language shift occurs, it shifts most of the time towards the language of the dominant group and the result could be the eradication of the local language.
NOT always the result of migration.
It refers to when it happens when the language of the MAJORITY displaces the MINORITY mother tongue language over time in migrant communities or in communities under military occupation.
