Project Huia Chapters 11&12
These two chapters are set in the present day so Jim is an old man in the chapters. He continues to have disagreements with Ana with almost anything that concerns the Huia or Ashhurst. Near the beginning of chapter 12, Jim starts acting very subdued. At the end of chapter 12, he starts shaking violently and leaves the room in a panic.
In these two chapters, Logan is once again excited. He is eager to go to Ashhurst to learn more about the places Jim has mentioned in his stories. While having lunch in chapter 11 Logan sees his first Carson. After lunch in the same chapter Logan and Ana wait for Jim to come out of the bathroom. They wait by a playground which is quite near a cemetery. In the cemetery Logan spots Mavis's name
Whitaker, Mavis Anne
They meet three children in a hollowed tree which is where Logan meets his second Carson. At the end of chapter 12, Logan is excited to find out more about the place where Ana took them. But he is confused by Jim's sudden burst of violent shaking.
In these two chapters, Ana acts like their tour guide less and lets Jim show them around his hometown more. She watches as Jim shows them round a winding forest path until they reach a hollowed tree. In that tree, Ana had to make some threatening calls to three young boys who were beating Jim and Logan with sticks. Ana using some demanding tones and words and the boys end up leaving. Jim and Ana still have quite a few arguments in the chapters, but they still respect each other's space and allow each other to take turns ni showing and giving factual information to Logan. In chapter 12 Ana shows Jim and Logan around her workplace. Jim and Ana have a few arguments during the tour. She is about to continue by showing them a place in the Huia Room that has a no touching rule when Jim starts violently shaking, asks to be left alone(in a way) and leaves the room.
Logan calls his grandmother to tell her that Jim was being repressive and very unwilling to reocrd anymore of his story. Logan told his grandmother everything that had happened in the oast day and she said she would talk to him in the morning. She does (though Logan had to wake Jim up). Jims mood was foul fpr the rest of the day though less than it was the day before.
Ana, Logan and Jim meet Keith in the pub where they were eating lunch in chapter 11. Jim kept giving him nasty looks as he knew that he was a Carson.
Also known as Danny Carson. Jim, Logan and Ana met him as one of the three boys in the hollowed out tree. He was the bossiest, loudest and definitely the rudest of the three. Danny helps a stick with a bandanna tied around the end. He was very unwilling to give Ana any of his information she threatened him with such as; his name and the name of his school. He was also the one that supplied Jim, Logan and Ana with the information that Daniel Carson was dead. He said that he died from injuries from being hit by a train. Jim remarked that he knew because he was there when it happened.
The bush walk was the track that Jim had described earlier on in the chapters. It was the place he tried to escape from the Carsons when he received the printed photo's of the Huia. The hollowed tree was at the end of the walk.
The pub was where Jim, Logan and Ana had seen Keith Carson in chapter 11
The hollowed tree was where Jim and Logan where being beaten by three boys. One of the boys being Danny Carson. The hollowed tree was at the end of the bush walk that Jim had taken them on.
The hotel room was where Logan made the call to his grandmother telling her that Jim wasn't acting as he usually did. It is also where Des Hunt started a few of that pages, chapters etc.
The Huia Room
In the Huia room Ana showed Jim and Logan many things such as two stuffed Huia's. The Huia room was also the place where Jim started shaking at the end of chapter 12.
The cemetery is where Logan saw Mavis's name in the list of those that where buried.
