Form
Loose Petrarchan sonnet for. It also has an octave which presents a problem then a sestet which provides the solution, however the solution comes early showing the narrators impatience to see her lover.
Language about nature
Extended metaphor of her lover being a tree and her thoughts are "wild vines" that cover him. Also shows her thoughts for him are constantly growing and unrestrained.

Language about suffering
"Starving sod"
Alliteration and personification is used to emphasise the impression of suffering - the lifeless ground reflects their dying relationship.
"God - curst"
The "t" im curst is much harsher than the use of "children used in the first stanza when relating to god. This shows the narrator is becoming more bitter over time.

The first and last line of each stanza rhyme - reflects how the past experience affect the reader at present.
The indented final line slows the poem down and shows how the narrator is sad about the relationship failing.
