Should tipped workers be paid a fixed wage instead ?
Background
Question 3
How will the food prices change
Question 2
Will it effect the quality service?
Question 1
Will waiters actually benefit in the long run?
My experiences
Busser(16) at fancy restaurant
Waiters would make several hundred a night on a good day just by serving
My 1% would net me 50-80 a night just by cleaning
The crew in the back that made everything, paid minimum wage only
Didn't hate the money but saw the unfairness in equality
Crew members would try selling stuff to us servers to get by
(Tamales,trinkets,cutting yards,2nd job)
Waiting staff mostly worried about shopping and making enough for their expensive car payments
On a bad day no one got anything
Con(against the idea)
Restaurant owners prefer paying waiting staff much lower than the minimum wage
Waiters like that they can get a lot of money easily
Customers tip more for better service
They also get a percentage of the tips(could be a lot, could be a little, why not take the chance?
They save money and make some In the process
Improved quality of service because of competitive wages
The restaurant industry will be destroyed because they depend on the tips to determine the star it will have.
Pro(my stance)
Income equality for entire staff
Waiters will still get paid for their work no matter the tip
Some people don't tip just because they don't like you or they don't feel like it
Even if they got a really good service
