- - - - Snyder wanted to introduce IQ testing to determine a freshman's educational track.
        
        Snyder required all teachers to sigh a loyalty pledge and McDowell wasn't going to be apart of it due to her strong religious beliefs opposing war.
        
        On November 18, 1917, this type of pledge caused a type of communist teacher witch hunt. Teachers here questioned and terminated from their duties if they refused to sign and conform to the pledge's goals.( It all sounds crazy, I know but these were stressful times in U.S. history. It doesn't make it excusable but i understand what is going on.)
        
        This moment lead to direct attacks towards the AFT and caused questioning regarding its possible communist ties.
        
        These instances occurred from 1917 - 1960, targeting tens of thousands of teachers over their political beliefs. This led to the development of two camps one that was a precursor to today's unions and one that is no longer relevant.
        
        These events caused an influx of masters and doctorate level teachers to enter into the educational system . due to the tendency of higher levels of education in men it caused male teachers to be at a ratio even higher than today's standards.
    - - Teachers unions targeted one another and how they were ran was drastically changed.
        
        Jewish teachers were targeted due to their political beliefs and ethnicity.
        
        The trial of 8 Jewish teachers in 1950.
        
        The board of education had no interest in classroom performance for communist teachers.
        
        Some targeted teachers were not communist. they were just accused by other teachers and were forced to resign.
        
        Many school reform ideas included in this area did eventually become the norms of today. That is irony.
- - - - Maggie becomes Susan B. Anthony's dear friend.and Maggie succeeds where Anthony fails( I see this as a direct result of Michael Haley's up bringing..)
        
        Maggie Haley was a teacher who was tired of her unfair wages which caused her to pursue a way to fix this issue. This caused the birth of the Chicago Teachers Federation which later became the National education Association.
        
        Haley found delight in criticism identifying her self as proud fighting Irish and a feminist
        
        Haley helped cracked down on tax dodging business men. This is something we need to do today.
        
        1904 Harriot Taylor Upton asked Haley to help reach out towards organized teachers across the country which led to women's voting rights.(This is perhaps Maggie's greatest accomplishment.)
  - - - She worked with Dewey to earn her PhD with a dissertation in pedagogy, (this is a big deal because highly educated women ware still uncommon during this time.)
        
        She worked to develop a system that followed Dewey's methods while having teachers directly influence the experience.
