Jekyll and Hyde summary
Chapter 1

They see a battered door in a well-kept city and Enfield recalls a time where he saw a man trample over a little girl

Chapter 2

He goes to visit Lanyon, an old friend but he has not heard of Hyde and explains him and Jekyll have fallen out.
He has a nightmare so goes out to see Hyde for himself, he finds him just as disgusting as Enfield did.
Utterson goes to Jekyll's house and learns all his servants have been told to obey Hyde and that he has a key to Jekyll's lab. Utterson thinks Hyde is blackmailing Jekyll.

Chapter 4

Utterson searches Hyde's room, it looks as though it has been recently evacuated.
Chapter 5
Utterson goes to visit Jekyll who promises Hyde will go away now, and shows him a letter supposedly from Hyde,
Utterson gives this letter to his clerk, Mr Guest who feel the handwriting is the same as Jekyll's.
Chapter 6
Utterson visits Lanyon who refuses to speak of Jekyll, and appears quite ill.
A few weeks later, Lanyon dies and leaves a letter to Utterson which he says can only be opened until Jekyll has gone.
Utterson tries to visit Jekyll but Poole says he can't and that he now just spends time in his laboratory.
Chapter 7
Utterson and Enfield take another walk and discuss Hyde. They pass Jekyll's window and encourage him to walk with them.
Jekyll refuses and suddenly a look of fear comes across his face. Utterson and Enfield are deeply troubled by what they have seen.
Chapter 8

They hear Hyde's voice call out and enter, finding him on the floor in clothes to big for him with a potion in his hand.
Chapter 9
It is Lanyons letter to Utterson and contains all the details of what happened and what he witnessed.
It explains how Jekyll asked Lanyon to bring him some chemicals and give them to Hyde. He did and then was given the option to leave, however he stayed and saw Hyde transform into Jekyll.
Chapter 10
Jekyll explains how he was fascinated with the good and evil sides of human nature and was curious to see if he could separate the two, so he made a potion allowing him to split his personalities.
He explains how he began to lose control over Hyde and started turning into him sporadically, eventually causing Hyde to take over.
