Students will create a persuasive text using “I think you should go here because…” as a prompt to promote a part of Australia and a particular landscape for a travel magazine.
Students will complete a a few short answer questions seeing if they were able to make connection from the story to their own experiences, see what they have been able to add to their vocabulary.
Students will choose a landscape in Australia, research facts about the location and then plan characters, events before writing a short story using the information they have found and creativity.
Discuss where students have been on holiday, either within Australia or overseas. Allow students to plan and write about where they have been on holiday.
Students in groups will plan and create a small skit. They will plan characters, a setting at an Australian landscape and events. Once finished and rehearsed, students will film their skits and after will showcase it to the class.
Direct students to record key events from the text and to note any connections they make. Similarities and differences can also be noted about their connections from their own experiences.
The activity Interviews involves students role-playing a question and answer situation. One student takes on the role of a character while the other student asks them questions. Participating in Interviews allows readers to make inferences about a character’s actions, behaviours and how they felt about different places around Australia.
