Yammer
A social network for business, part of Microsoft's Office 365 solution; people have to have a company email address
Can post updates, like, reply and share and has been referred to as "Facebook for business" but PCWorld says it can do more than that.
Hashtags for searching @ mentions also supported; people directory (of those with yammer accounts); has mobile apps for iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows phone
Tap into knowledge across the organisation, encourage collaboration
Connect and engage everyone; can share files, integrates with applications such as SharePoint
John Stepper, Working Out Loud (website)
Working Out Loud helps you build relationships that matter, that can help you in some way. For individuals, it helps you feel more engaged while giving you access to more opportunities. For an organization, it creates a more collaborative, innovative culture.
Can have public and private groups, as well as external groups (people from other Yammer networks)

Staff
Currently c100 people have signed up to Yammer; unclear how active the community is or the perception of the tool
Has been used extensively in some parts for example during Clearing, and some great advocates in the community
Underwent some necessary IT changes at the end of 2016 to incorporate into the Office 365/Enterprise solution, which may have led to uncertainty of use and/or position for Yammer users (usage appears to have dropped since then)
Potential hurdles
It doesn't automatically launch on pc login (unlike other tools Skype for business does after first login)
Potential licence issues (following IT changes), people need to apply via the Help Desk
-
Typical "British-ness" when it comes to working out loud and not understanding why it could benefit others
Students
Don't currently have access, being investigated
