Stanza
Rhyme and Rhyme Scheme
Names assigned to different sets of numbers
A group of numbered of single units in a poem
It is the paragraph in a poem.
Composed of multiple stanzas so they are separated from each other line that is empty between.
Couplet- Stanza only 2 lines
Tercet- composed of 3 lines
Quatrain- There is 4 lines
cinquain-5 line it has
Sestet- 6 lines it has
sonnet- entire poem with 14 lines.
Ability to make a flow through rough parts
similar sounding words at the end of lines
Similarities in sound throughout two or more lines.
Rhymes without effort are called true rhymes
slant rhymes are words that do rhyme but with a little effort and some poetic licenses being granted.
rhyming words exist in single ine itself and that is called internal or middle rhyme.
Rhythm and Meter
Rhythm is a pattern in which poet chooses to sequence the stress and unstressed syllables in every line.
Each pattern is called a foot
Three factors
Total count of accented(stresses) syllables in each line
The tall of recurring patterns of two or three syllables-Stresses and unstressed-clubbed in every line
Total number of syllables present in each line
Stressed syllables is tagged with / and unstressed is marked with U
Types of foot names
1 Foot: Monometer
2 Feet: Dimeter
3 Feet:Trimeter
4 Feet:Tetrameter
5 Feet:Pentameter
6 Feet: Hexameter
5 Types of constant beat pattern that feet occur
Lamb (lambic)-One weak syllable followed by one accented syllable
Trochee (trochaic)-One accented syllable followed by one weak syllable
Anapaestic(anapaestic)-Two weak syllable followed by one accented syllable
Dactyl(dactylic)- One accented syllable followed by two weak syllables
Spondee(spondaic)- Two consecutive accented syllables. This can usually be found at the end of a line
Figurative Language
Alliteration
Is the repetition of a particular consonant vowel sound in the initial stressed syllables of a series of words or phrases in closed succession
Simile
Comparison between two concepts ,objects, or people using verb like resembles or connections using like or as or than
Metaphor
Comparison of two completely unrelated things that do NOT use like,as or than
Imagery
Elemnts that decribe what the y are seeing or feeling
Symbolism
Presentation of tangible objects that actually represents an abstract or intangible concept or idea is symbolism.Objected placed in the narrative place
