Subcortical structures: thalamus, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, basal ganglia, hippocampus, amygdala, olfactory bulbs, septum, cingulate gyrus (part of the limbic system) We have 1 of each of these structures in each hemisphere (we have 2 of these structures)
THALAMUS--receives sensory information and sends it up to other parts of the brain; Can be broken up into smaller parts, each of which is associated with different sensory information or behaviors
