Redundancy

If eligible for redundancy payment, the employee has the right to time off work to attend training courses and look for new employment.

The amount of payment:
- for every year of service, two weeks' gross wages
- plus one additional week of normal
- cap on weekly wage 600 euro

There is a procedure in place for employers considering redundancy, including duty to consult employees' representatives, deciding on a proper selection procedure and informing employees of the redundancy.
Claiming unfair dismissal for redundancy: when it is considered not genuine, the employee was unfairly selected or selected in contravention of the agreed criteria. Compensation if awarded would usually be the same figure as the statutory redundancy payment the employee is entitled to.
