Fundimental technologies
What is the internet?, it is a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks
Three main parts
Data center , is a large group of networked computer servers typically used by organizations for the remote storage, processing, or distribution of large amounts of data
What enables connectivity – wires, cables, routers, satellites, under sea cables
Internet exchange points , is a physical infrastructure through whereby networks can connect in places such as, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London Internet exchange
WWW
English scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989, It made the internet accessible
The surface web, is that portion of the World Wide Web that is readily available to the general public and searchable with standard web search engines
The deep web is the part of the World Wide Web whose contents are not indexed by standard search engines for any reason. Includes uses such as web mail and online banking
The dark webThe dark web is the World Wide Web content that exists on darknets, overlay networks which use the public Internet but require specific software, configurations or authorization to access
Web 1.0, there is only limited interaction between sites and web users. Simply an information portal between users without given the opportunity to post reviews, comments or feedback
Web 2.0 , facilitates interaction between web users and sites, so it allows users to interact more freely with each other. Web 2.0 encourages participation, collaboration, and information sharing. (Youtube, Social media, Amazon etc)
IoT it’s about connecting devices over the internet, letting them talk to us, applications, and each other. The IoT adds sensors and Internet connectivity to everyday physical objects for specific purposes
Advantages (1) Communication, IoT encourages the communication between devices, the physical devices are able to stay connected. (2)The machine-to-machine interaction provides better efficiency, hence; accurate results can be obtained fast. This results in saving valuable time
Disadvantages These devices are easy to hack as people forget to change a password from its factory settings. A hacker could change your prescription and cause massive harm. Or a hacker buys £100 worth of milk if your lactose intolerant
The cloud, The delivery of on-demand computing resources—everything from applications to data centers — over the internet on a pay-for-use basis

Intranet , An intranet is a private network, operated by a large company or other organisation, which uses internet technologies, but is insulated from the global internet.
An extranet is an intranet that is accessible to some people from outside the company, or possibly shared by more than one organisation.
