Lecture 8
Queuing management while some maybe satisfied instantly, others may have to wait
Rejecting, if queue has reached maximum any remaining customers could be rejected by system
Balking, may refuse to join queue (human) and wait for service if judged too long
The queue, customers waiting to be served form the queue,
Reneging, customer queues for a length of time then leaves the queue and chance of being served
Queue discipline , set of rules to establish what order customers waiting in the queue are served (most firms use First come first serve)
Servers , facility that processes customers in the queue (ex, restaurant, get tray, knife and fork, get drink, then food (passed through three servers)
The arrival rate, rate at which customers needing to be served arrive at the server or servers
The source of customers, customers aren't always human, machines waiting to be serviced, trucks arriving to collect cargo.

What is capacity management?, is the maximum level of value-added activity over a period of time that the process can achieve under normal operation conditions
Capacity constraints, organisations operate below their maximum capacity, either insufficient demand to fill or deliberate so operation an respond quickly to new orders. Capacity ceiling is some parts of operation are below while others are at their capacity, super store selling gift wrapping, can cope normally , but when Christmas demand goes up may not be able to cope

How can operations plan capacity level?, Representing demand and output in the form of cumulative representations (Pg 344 in book for graph), this will show if capacity will reach demand trends in the future
