Protecting our Teachers
Schools were taken over by extremists groups using public property and tax money to teach students to hate. The Legislature's Decentralization Plan helped cure this problem by stopping physical threats to teachers as well as students. (Goldstein, pg. 149)
Although segregation within the students was becoming more and more normal, teachers of different races still underwent multiple struggles to be on the same teams. (Goldstein, pg. 150-152)
The news followed riots and picketers for the cause of equality among teachers regardless of race. Signs read, "Civil Rights for Teacher","Contracts Must Be Honored", and even "Stop teacher Race Hatred". (Goldstein, pg. 153)

Personal Connections: I thought it was really cool to learn that President Johnson was involved in education as well as the different gains he made for education. I understand why, but to read about schools for blacks being so underprivileged just because of societal reasoning was hard to support. I guess if I was a white male in that time I would be able to bette relate. Finally, I think Joan Wofford was an exceptional woman. I mean, she got teaching interns Masters degrees.... if only haha.
