Bias
-
-
Definition: when a person's opinion is influenced by outside factors. Example: When a person from the U.S. is asked if America is the greatest country in the world.
Good Sampling Techniques
Stratified SRS: SRS is used for a population that was separated due to the population not being consistent.
Advantages: Better for use when a group has many different levels of income/education, etc.
-
Cluster Sampling: Taking a sample by splitting the population into groups and surveying those groups.

Example: Surveying the students in Duxbury High School for their favorite restaurant. The entire student population would be surveyed and results would be found using Stratified SRS. Stratified would be used to find results from within each class, as restaurants might change as a result of class. The juniors and seniors might develop their pallet more and want to go to nicer restaurants as a result than the freshman and sophomores. The opposite could also be true to where juniors and seniors can drive and are more likely to buy their own food and go to cheaper restaurants.
