Coevolution: 2 species evolve to each other
Predator/prey
Symbiosis
Charles Darwin: Created the idea of Natural Selection
Natural Selection: Best adapted survive and reproduce
Examples:Birds on the Galapagos Islands Charles Darwin used to create his idea
Convergent evolution: species share functions but with different structures
Analogous structures: ex. wings and eyes
Divergent Evolution: new species break from original
Homologous structures: similar structure with different functions
Founder effect: Small part of a population breaks off and makes a new different population
All of the flies with white eyes break off then there will be a new population with white eyes and the original population willl still have red eyes
Bottleneck Effect:Portion of a population dies off
Example: If all the flies with white eyes died then the Bottleneck effect would make the remaining of the population all have red eyes because there is no more while eyes flies
Hardy Weinberg:Measuring allele frequencies to track evolution
Hardy Weinberg Equilibrium: Population is not evolving. Needed for it is 1.No Natural Selection 2.No Mutations 3.No gene flow 4.Stable environment 5.Random mating
History of Life
Anaerobic prokaryotes
Autotrophs (Cyanobacteria)
Aerobic Prokaryotes
Euraryotes
Evolution:Change in genetic makeup of a population over time
Genetic Drift:Change in population due to chance
