Berlin Airlift (1948-49)

They flew supplies in to Berlin and as they knew USSR didn't want a war they knew they wouldn't get shot down
It was clear to Stalin that they wouldn't stop flying goods in so they aventually took the blcokade down

275,000 planes transported 1.5 million tons of supplies during the 318 days the blockade was up

Yalta (Feb 1945)
The 3 big powers attended this (Stalin, Roosevelt, Churchill)

However they disagreed on what they would do with Germany and if they should pay reparations (Stalin felt they should and Roosevelt and Churchill said they shouldn't and they should rebuild)

They also agreed that the nazi regime should be banned and any surviving nazis will be treated as war criminals
They also agreed to divide Germany into 4 where Britain, USA, USSR and France would all have a bit and the capital Berlin was also split into 4.
The Marshal Plan (1947)

The USA offered $13 billion to rebuild Europe (Britain, France and 14 other nations)
They also tried to do this with Eastern European countries but the USSR didn't allow them to accept this.

Because of this Stalin increased protection in countries such as Poland, Hungary etc

Bizonia and Trizonia
The US and British parts of Germany were run so closely together that they became on (Bizonia) and later on France joined to make Trizonia
In 1948 the three states became democratic, capitalist states increasing tension with Stalin as he was not consolted about this decision

Truman Doctrine (1947)
Truman was worried about the spread of Communism so he said that the USA would use Economic and military means to stop Communism spreading and containing it.
