Believers ought to show the fruit of the Spirit in their lives (not the gifts of the Spirit)
Spirit's gifts are freely given according to the decision of God
Ask for the Spirit's gift out of love for others
God's gifs are given to be used
We are accountable for the way we use our talents
Pentecost
What happened at Pentecost was that the power of the Spirit was given to the disciples so that they could be witnesses
Acts 1:8
The Spirit was not a recent arrival at the time of Pentecost. The Spirit had always been there.
The purpose for which those gathered at Pentecost received the power of the Spirit was not to have power over others but to share their power.

Eph 1:14
In many purchase agreements, the buyer has to put down a deposit or a down payment to secure possession of the item; that deposit promises that there is more payment to come and also ensures possession of the item. God places his Spirit within our hearts as a down payment: it demonstrates that we are his and promises that there is more to come. It is a surety or pledge of our salvation
The Greek word for "comfort" can bear the meaning "urge on" or "encourage to do greater things." There is a sense in which the Spirit does prod us, encouraging and empowering us to do things we otherwise would not - and could not - do.
