Reinforcement increases, punishment decreases.
For example, when a baby whines, they get candy and no punishment. But when a baby whines and the parent yells at them telling them to stop whining, they'll get the candy, but they got punished.
Primary Reinforcer
-
For example, I go out running. When I'm done running, I drink some water. When I'm drinking the water, it makes me feel better, and in the future when I go out running, I'm going to drink water after I'm done.
Secondary Reinforcer
-
For example, I studied differently for my second psychology test. As a result, I got a B on it. So in the future, I'll more likely get better grades because of how I studied.
Fixed ratio
-
For example, when a child meets their monthly reading goal for the domino's pizza book it program, they get a reading award certificate.
Variable Ratio

For example, when someone gambles, they have different chances of winning at different times.
