Total War, Major Events, US Enters The War, Paris Peace Conference
Total War All of the countries that were in the fighting were to commit all of their resources for the war. This was a strategy that that meant that a nation's domestic population should be committed to winning the war. Governments set up planning boards that price and wage controls, and rationing of food and other supplies that were needed. Propaganda was set up to motivate the people that are back home.
Major Events Japan entered the war on the side of the allies so it could take control of German occupied land in the Pacific. The British also defended the Suez Canal from the Ottoman Empire. The Australian and New Zealand troops formed a special corps known as ANZAC and a year-long campaign at Gallipoli.
US Enters The War Americans at the time believed in a strong democratic government, so for them the Allies were a better fit than the Central Powers. German U-Boats attack on ships carrying American civilians. On May 17, 1915 a German submarine attacked the American ship, Lusitania was a final straw for the Americans, yet the actual final event that drew America into the war was the interception of the Zimmerman Telegram.
Paris Peace Conference This was a conference that pertained to the winners of the war which were: Great Britain, US, France and Italy. The Italians left the conference after not being granted a piece of land that was promised during the war. Russia was not invited to the conference because it undertook a communist revolution and it became known as Soviet Union. President Wilson believed that no country should be severely punished, but France and Britain did not believe in that. They believed that Germany should be punished because their soldiers were the ones that suffered the most during the war.
Paris Peace Conference Pt.2 Although the powers were at a disagreement President Wilson came up with these 14 documents called the "14 points" , he wanted to create a League of Nations that could sit down and talk about the problems that the war has caused between those countries.
