Sherri "Cherry" Valance
Action and words
She chewed her gum hard because Dallas was talking dirty. This action shows how she doesn't tolerate Dallas' dirty talk.
When Dallas offered her a coke, she said, "I wouldn't drink it if I was starving in the desert. Get lost, hood!" Just like the other points, Cherry stands up for herself and won't fall for Dallas' tricks.
"It's me or the booze," Cherry said to his "boyfriend". These words show how Cherry is very stubborn in a good way.
She gave a cool cold stare to Dallas because of his mouth. This is Cherry's way of showing Dallas that it's not right talking dirty in front of her and her friend.
"All Socs aren't like that. You have to believe me, Ponyboy. Not all of us are like that." Cherry is trying to defend the Socs of who they really are.
Direct Commentary
"She liked the Beatles and thought Elvis Presley was out."
This particular phrase shows what type of music Cherry was into and music she didn't like.

"Nobody but Soda could really get me talking. Till I met Cherry Valance."
Ponyboy describes Cherry as easy to talk to.
"I quit worrying about everything and thought about how nice it was to sit with a girl without having to listen to her swear or to beat her off with a club." Cherry was the type of girl who saw it not necessary to swear after every single sentence. This is where Ponyboy notices how different Cherry is than other greaser girls.
