Scout (TKAM) :silhouette: (Chapters 1-11 (Chapters 1-7 (Traits from 1-7)…

- - - - Young, is in her first year of elementary school (Is in first grade)
      - Likes reenacting books/movies with Jem
      - " 'You weren't born reading'...'Jem says I was' "(17). The teacher wonders how Scout can already read. She very much dislikes it too. Reading is like breathing for Scout.
      - Has a temper, "I was rubbing his nose in the dirt" (22). Beat up an older kid. Treats people unequally/rude. Has resorted to violence on occasion to give people a fair 'treatment' after the way they treat her.
      - Scout seems to hold her opinion and contradict wherever she feels necessary
      - Nags Jem to get him to do things for her.
      - Baptist, poor grammar
      - She doesn't want Jem to get into unnecessary trouble, has affection for him.
  - - - Has grown older by one year.
      - Though she finds it hard to restrain herself, she does when Mrs. Dubose insults her father.
      - Scout tends to follow Jem everywhere, unless restricted by either Jem or an adult.
      - Eager to say something impressive about Atticus, but Jem doesn't want her to do so, as he claims there is a reason he never told them about it. He probably wouldn't want anyone else to know. She seems to not understand this fully
      - Struggles to deal with insults to her father, in a civilised manner (no cursing or fighting).
      - She doesn't yet understand segregation
      - Scout dislikes much of her extended family, but likes her aunts cooking.
      - Scout learns some restraint, "My fists were clenched...I learned to hold it in"(74).
      - Seems to be ever so slightly more responsible than she used to be (Is allowed to roam further).
