Definitions
Ecosystem: study of the interactions between organisms and their environment (distribution and abundance)

An environmental worldview: their role in the world, what is right and wrong behaviour and how the world works
Importance:
- Judgement and understanding towards it
- How they act and behave and interact
- Influence on choices made

Environmental views
Stewardship: ethical responsibility to manage nature
- we will not run out of resources because of our integrity and technology
- our success depends on how well we manage the earths life support systems (mostly for our benefit)
Environmental wisdom: resources are limited, should not waste them and not all for us
- encourage earth sustaining forms of economic growth and discourage earth degrading forms
Planetary management: humans sit outside and not a part of nature
- can manage nature to meet our increasing needs and wants
- we will never run out of resources because of our integrity and technology available
Values
Instrumental or utilitarian: a value humans place on something because of its instrumental use
e.g. a car
Intrinsic or inherent value: a value of something because of its existence and gives us pleasure and enjoyment
e.g. whales and bush walk
Environmental views

Earth centred worldview: ecosystem or ecosphere centred. View natures species (humans to) as a total system
