Imaging
RESPONSE ASSESSMENT
-
Partial Response = all lesions have shrunk by at least 30%, but disease still present
-
-
-
STAGING
-
-
MRI - bone, soft tissue, pelvis, posterior fossa
-
CT
- Oral contrast medium for GI tract
- IV contrast medium for vascular structures / liver
- Nephrotoxic - consider renal function
- Principle concern is dose of radiation
- Pregnancy - harmful
MRI
- Gold standard for neurospinal, rectal, prostate and MSK tumours
- MR angiography
- MR cholangiopancreatograms
- Priniciple concern is magnetic field - pacemakers, metal in body, equipment in area
Ultrasound
- No radiation, safe, reliable, inexpensive
- Duplex
- Doppler
- Soft tissues
- Guidance of biopsies and procedures
Nuclear medicine
- Radioisotope labelled pharmaceuticals given IV
- Bone scintography - skeletal mets
PET Scanning
- Tracer - e.g. FDG-18
- Functional images
- Merged with standard CT
