First: Gather the class on the carpet. Ask the class, "Who can tell me what I would use to measure the carpet?" (Students will raise their hands and say what they think is right) Once a student says the right answer (tape measure), have that student help you measure the carpet and get measurement for the length of the carpet. After the the measurement is taken, say, "This is exactly what we are doing today! Today we are going to go around the room to different objects, decide what measuring tool we will need to use to find the length of the objects, and the right down the length of the objects on our worksheet!"
