Funtions
Protects from injury
sensory responce
regulated body temerature
gets rid of wastes
vitamin D
Bruises
when blood vessels in the dermis burst
red blood cells leak onto surrounding tissue
hemoglobin in block breaks down and releases in pigment
pigment is gradually absorbed into the bloodstream and skin begins to look normal again
Skin Structure
Epidermis
outermost layer,
thinnest
made out of dead skin and has all of your skins melanin
Dermis
Thickest layer
blood vessels, nerves, muscles, oils ans sweat glands
Fatty Layer
Also called Hypodermis
Heat and Waste Exchange
blood vessels expand to release heat and constrict to obtain heat
dermis has 3 million sweat glands
when blood vessels expand sweat is released onto the skin
Cuts
Blood is released until it clots or scabs
cells fight infections while skin cells try to repair the dermis and epidermis
scars may from is the cut is large enough because the tissue grow back with thick fibers
Injuries and repair
Skin produces new cells in the epidermis and repairs teras in the dermis
skin is vulnerable to disease causing organisms when torn
Skin Grafts
if a cut is to large there may not be enough cells to heal properly
skin is taken from other parts of the body to help heal and treat injured sections
