Research suggests that regular PA during childhood may be a predictor of health outcomes, however the influence of GDM on the benefits of PA is unclear. The purpose of this study is to explore the effects PA has on IR and MetS in children (ages 5 to 10) from GDM mothers and non-GDM mothers living in Birmingham, Alabama.
Sub-Problem 2:
Incidence of Metabolic Syndrome(MetS) and Insulin Resistance (IR) are similar between children of GDM moms and children of non-GDM moms
-
IR
Conclusion
27% of children from GDM mothers are insulin resistant, while no children from normal mothers are insulin resistant
-
-
Sub-Problem 3:
Relative Risk reduction for MetS and IR experience due to PA is similar between children of GDM moms and NON-GDM moms
Conclusion
-
Children from a GDM mother is 1.25x more likely to have MetS than a child from a NON-GDM mother, regardless of PA
