Imperialism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force.

Ideological: Which is based on cultural values (Darwinism), the white race was superior to other culture which were considered primitive.
Religious: Spread european values, spread christianity, and protect european missionaries.
Political: Gain power, to compete with territory, gain good military force and gain prestige
Exploratory: Explore unknown areas, more scientific research, to go on an adventure.
Economic: To make money, control trade, raw materials and cheaper labor.
